6.2

So most of you have known me for a LONG time and have seen at least one crazy diabetic episode, whether it was a low reaction or the high uncontrolled giggles. Well I have another story to go into my "crazy Diabetic" files....
This is according to Chris...I remember nothing...seriously!
Chris and I had just moved down to Greenville and it was Saturday so we had a long list of things to get done. We woke up and started working on things like hanging curtains. BY we, I mean that I laid in bed and told him where to hang the curtains. Love you hun!!! hahah so I couldn't make up my mind about hanging curtains and Chris was getting annoyed so he was like "let's go to the next thing and we'll come back to the curtains" so he goes into the front room and starts unpacking. I wandered in slowly and found a comfy place to lay on the floor. I started kinda wiggling around and rolling and crumpling the packing paper and throwing it at him or at nothing. I made some fart noises and other obnoxious sounds and Chris was laughing for a little bit....ok 30 minutes later when he is asking me things about where to put stuff and I respond with a fart noise, it wasn't as funny. He was so irritated that he got his keys and went to Home Depot. He left me rolling on the floor like a child.
Naturally, I just made my way back to bed and slept until noon. I heard him come back from the store and called him into our room. He walked in and I could immediately tell he was not looking forward to seeing what I had to say. He was still so annoyed. I asked him a few questions and then told him that I felt funny and I couldn't really remember what was going on. He rolled his eyes and was like, nice try, but I finally convinced him that I had been low all morning and needed some juice. He slowly let the grudge go and lovingly nursed me back to health. Since then it has become my families favorite story. They love to tell everyone how I rolled around making fart noises and how poor Chris had to deal with me. That is the first time anything like that has happened the whole time he has known me! Never a dull day right?

As a Diabetic there are multiple test that are taken every single time you go to the doctor. They draw a chunk of blood and test you livers, your kidney function, your retinal healthy, the sensitivity in your feet, you microalbumin levels (the pee test), your cholesterol, your thyroid panel, etc. There is always one test that I dread! The blasted Hemoglobin A1c is a test to determine a 90 day average of the concentration of sugar in your blood stream. Basically it is your average blood sugar for 3 months. A normal person would be below a 7. At one point in my life I was below a 7....I think that was back when I was like 8 years old. As I rebelled and became careless, my A1c really showed it and it was anywhere from a 10 to a 13!!!!! BAD NEWS!
Naturally, having found out I am pregnant and knowing all the severe deformations that arise as a result of uncontrolled diabetes I have been a stress case about my blood sugar levels. At the appointment right after I found out I was pregnant, my A1c was an 8.4, down from a 9, down from a 10. (those are not good numbers!)
From the very first day I was pregnant I have been testing so often that my fingers are ugly and have calluses. I have been low so many times (as referenced above) but this week I went to the doctor and they tested my A1c and it was a 6.2!!!! I couldn't even believe it! I was so thrilled. That means the whole three months I have been pregnant, my sugars have been really well managed. I can finally breathe a little easier! The crazy low reactions were well worth it!!!! Grow baby grow!!!

That's great news! Congrats. I hope the rest of the pregnancy continues to go well.

Oh, and crazy about being a seminary teacher! Our stake pres told Mike that he was on the short list for seminary teachers next year. I'm pretty sure I want to move to avoid that :)

I saw Aunt Sharron last weekend at Scott's reception and I said something about you being pregnant. I guess she didn't know and she was excited for you.

Congrats on your low numbers.
